Compiled by Chelsea Lettieri & Caitlin Sullivan

Topic Page Advisor:
Jennifer Swanberg, PhD

Domestic violence, once thought of as a private matter, is increasingly viewed as a workplace issue that impacts workers, their colleagues, and employers. With one in five U.S. workers experiencing domestic violence, the effect of domestic violence on the workplace is an emerging area of study. This topic page provides an overview of how domestic violence affects workers, offers strategies that employers can implement to address domestic violence among their workers, and explains how policies can mitigate the negative effects that domestic violence has on the workplace.
