Biography:
Paul Boyle is Professor of Human Geography at the University of St Andrews and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (FRSE). He is Director of the Longitudinal Studies Centre - Scotland (www.lscs.ac.uk) and was Founding Director of the Social Dimensions of Health Institute (www.sdhi.ac.uk). He is a quantitative social scientist with varied research interests in the broad areas of population studies and health research. Much of his research has been inter-disciplinary, including collaborators from both the social and medical sciences. Along with geographers, he has worked most closely with economists, epidemiologists, health researchers and sociologists. A major strand of his research focuses on the influence of family migration on women’s labour market outcomes, with a particular focus on US / UK comparisons.
