Preliminary Network Survey Results
Judi Casey February 10th, 2010
Thank you so much to the over four hundred individuals who completed our recent Network Survey. We greatly appreciate your taking the time to participate, and your valuable feedback is already being put to good use. Congratulations to Janet Walsh and Elizabeth Kurylo, winners of our random drawing for a $25 Amazon Giftcard.
I’ll share some preliminary results in this first of many posts you can expect to see in the months ahead.
1. Who responded to the survey?
Of the 440 individuals who completed the survey:
63% are academic faculty, researchers or students
24% have a work-life role in an organization or consult to organizations
7% are involved with policy
6% are individuals interested in work-family issues.
2. How long have respondents been involved in the work-life field?
Close to a third (31%) have been involved in the work-life field for more than 10 years, and almost a quarter (24%) for more than 5 years.
3. How did respondents find out about the Sloan Network?
Primarily, respondents learned about the Sloan Network from colleagues or co-workers (25%), followed by search engines (15%) and information distributed at conferences or meetings (14%).
4. Why do respondents use the Sloan Network?
The number one reason for using the Sloan Network was “to stay up to date on what is new in the field.” The second reason was “for reference or to obtain general information.”
We have gathered useful information on a wide variety of questions from all respondents. Over the next several months, we will be analyzing and using that information, as well as conducting further research, to develop a future model for the Network’s ongoing operations. We will continue to keep you updated on our progress and findings. Check our blog and our Transition page for more information and survey results.
