Sloan Network Updates and Reminders

The Elder Care topic page is now online.

There are many new Bills and Statutes related to dependent care, paid leave, and sick leave on the site.

Issue 8 of the Effective Workplace Series, Employee-Sponsored Child Care, is available in PDF format.

We have added many new leaders to the Work-Family Leaders Database.

Marcie Pitt-Catsouphes was an Honoree at the 2007 Work Life Legacy Awards. The awards are given annually to "the exemplary individuals who have made an indelible mark on the work life movement." Congratulations, Marcie!

Judi Casey moderated a session at the Conference Board Work Life conference, “How the Global Economy is Affecting Work Life: What Work Life and HR Professionals Need to Know.” The session, “Tools for Managing Flexibility: Moving beyond ‘It’s not working’ to find innovative solutions” was held on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 in New York City. The session provided information about approaches for addressing the challenges associated with implementing flexibility. Speakers included Graeme Russell, Macquarie University; Dee Dee Guzman and Christine Fossaceca, JPMorgan Chase; and Teresa Hopke, RSM McGladrey. A lively discussion followed the presentation about whether employees should disclose the reasons for their flexibility requests.

The Sloan Network has received funding from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation for another three year cycle from July 1, 2007-June 30, 2010. We are very appreciative of the efforts of Marcie Pitt-Catsouphes, founder of the Network, who will focus her attention on the Center on Aging and Work/ Workplace Flexibility in her capacity as Co-Director. Without Marcie’s extraordinary vision and dedication, the Network would not have achieved this milestone. Judi Casey will assume the role of the Network’s Principal Investigator. Karen Corday, our librarian and research associate, has been promoted to Information Services Specialist and will be responsible for content management of the Network.  Stephen Sweet of Ithaca College will provide direction for the resources available in the Research/Teaching portal of the web site.

Tina Matz Costa has been with the Sloan Network for many years, and is now stepping down from her position as Project Manager to work for the Center on Aging and Work/Workplace Flexibility while she completes her Ph.D. Tina’s expertise, humor, and teaching skills have immensely contributed to the Network’s success, and we are just grateful that she is not going too far away! Thank you, Tina!

Best regards,

Judi, Karen, Marcie, Tina, and Sandee
