Global Perspectives- Call for Papers: Twelfth World Congress of Social Economics
Theme: "Social Values and Economic Life"
Deadline for Submission: January 31, 2007
The conference will take place at the University of Amsterdam on June 8-10, 2007. Possible topics include: “The concept of 'career', gender and friendship, professionalism and professional identity, feminist theory, methodology, ethics and organizations, colonialism in organizations, complexity and diversity in the workplace, sexualities in organization, men and masculinities, identity and subjectivity, power and resistance, home/tele working, gender and technologies, alternative organization, management, managers and management practice, eroticism and embodiment, romance, love and organization, new managerialism, harassment and discrimination, race and ethnicity, social exclusion, intimacy and organization.” Please submit paper abstracts of no more than 500 words.

Global Perspectives- Call for Papers: 16th Annual IAFFE Conference on Feminist Economics

"Panel proposals and individual paper submissions are invited on any aspect of feminist inquiry into economic issues. As this is the first IAFFE conference to be held in Southeast Asia, we particularly encourage
participation of researchers, policy makers and activists from this region. Important themes include migration
and migrant workers, trade and its impact on women, sex work and the sex trade, informal work, women
and politics in Asia, and aging. Interdisciplinary approaches are welcome."

Special Issue: Journal of African American Studies
Theme: "African Americans: Benefits and Challenges of Working at Predominantly White Institutions: Strategies for Thriving"
Deadline for Submission: February 1, 2007
"Manuscripts should focus on the challenges and benefits of work experiences in predominantly white colleges and universities, specifically the emotional, psychological, physical, legal, social, and or spiritual consequences that are experienced as a result of being “the only one” or of being “a numerical minority” at their institutions. Further, authors will also give recommendations for ways in which the challenges that they face can be addressed by themselves as well as administrators, colleagues, and students within these institutions. Four copies of the manuscripts should be submitted to the guest editor below. Manuscripts will be between 18 and 25 pages and submitted with APA referencing. Manuscripts will be submitted for peer-review. Further, some accepted manuscripts may be included in an edited book to be published based on this special issue. In the event that some manuscripts are deemed outstanding but cannot be fitted into this specific issue, they would be given strong consideration for inclusion in the forthcoming edited book. "

"Possible subjects include: “Low-wage workers and economic insecurity, migrant workers, insecurity and the management and negotiation of risk (for example through family or communal resources), gendered and racialized experiences of risk, dangerous technologies and the negotiation of risk, risk and opportunity—under what circumstances can taking a risk bring benefits, and what kinds of workers are most likely to reap the rewards, changes over time—is ‘risk’ as new as is sometimes supposed, and what can a historical perspective say, the role of institutions in regulating risk.
