Over the past three years, the website of the Sloan Work and Family Research Network has
become a “commons” for individuals interested in work-family studies. During that time
period, the Network’s resources have been specifically aimed toward academics.
We are pleased to be able to tell you that the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation will continue to support the activities of the Sloan
Work and Family Research for the next three years. We are particularly excited that the 2004-2007 Sloan Work and
Family Research Network will be transformed into an initiative that stimulates the interest and engagement
of human resource managers, state legislators, as well as academics in work-family research.
Our “core business” will continue to be the identification and analysis of quality work-family research. For the next three years, the Network will:
- gather and synthesize the findings of work-family research which convey important messages about the
meaning and significance of work-family experiences;
- prepare a variety of summaries, papers, and videos about work-family topics and themes which will be disseminated in
hard copy publications as well as published on the project’s website;
- involve human resource leaders & business managers, state legislators, and academics in
discussions of the implications of work-family research for policy and practice;
- identify the gaps in research-based information needed by HR leaders & business managers and state legislators; and
- support partnering relationships within and between academics, business managers, and state legislators.
Affiliates of the Network receive copies of The Network News which include updates about work-family literature recently
added to our database of citations and annotation. We strive to include a sampling
of cross-discipline articles, chapters, reports, papers and books that investigate work and family
topics. We invite affiliates to submit appropriate works for inclusion in the updates. This
community-building process keeps us informed of publications prior to other databases and, in turn, we inform the affiliates.
Affiliates of the Sloan Network are eligible to receive a 50% discounted individual rate to the
Community, Work, and Family journal. Please visit the journal's website to view information about the journal, browse the
"Table of Contents" for past and current issues, read the abstracts of the articles, or order a sample copy.
If you would like to take advantage of this deep discount offer, please contact the journal directly: Daniel
